What is Glycolic Acid? Glycolic Acid is a member of the Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA family and is derived from the fruit sugar acid. Some well-known acids are citric acid from citrus fruit, lactic acid from milk, and tartaric acid from wine.
For centuries people worldwide have made use of this naturally occurring acid in improving the look and feel of their skin. A Glycolic peel is simply a process that removes the top, dead-skin layer of your skin to reveal fresh skin beneath. This also stimulated cells to divide into healthier cells. Glycolics can be used on Dry skin, dull ageing skin, Ingrown Hairs, surface pigmentation and is especially good for Oily skin. As most Acne and breakouts occur due to the clogging of a pore by the accumulation of dead skin, Glycolic peels are able to prevent the re-occurrence of Acne by simply ridding the skin of the top layer of dead cells.
Glycolic Peels are not only restricted to Facial skin. The hands, the back, legs, neck and the chest can also be treated.
How does it work?
Glycolic acid removes old, damaged cells on the top layer of skin and as a result it smoothens and softens the skin, diminishes fine lines, decreases acne outbreaks, evens out skin tone coloration and lightens hyper pigmented areas. The Glycolic Peel can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs.
Collagen and Elastin fibres in the body are made up of 30%-50% Glycine. Amino Acids [proteins] in the body are first converted to Sirene Protease – a destructive enzyme that fragments Collagen and Elastin fibres and then to Glycine for the production of Elastin and Collagen fibres.
Since Glycolic Acid is a natural intermediate in the conversion of the amino acid serine into glycine in the body, adding Glycolic Acid to the system stimulates the production of glycine while suppressing the production of Sirene Protease. Is Glycolic Acid Safe?
Glycolic Acid is a 100% non-toxic substance. Our Glycolic Acids have been approved by the TGA and The FDA. It is necessary that you use Sunblock during and after your Glycolic Peel course.
What is the difference between A Free Acid Glycolic and a Glycolic Polymer?
Our skin is a polymer, a complex structure of molecules. When you apply products to the skin, it is important that the products speak the same language as the skin for maximum penetration and results. Our Glycolics are formulated the way they exist in nature – as Polymers derived from Rhubarb.
Because of its Polymer effect, superior penetration is achieved and the results are a healthier, smoother, tighter skin from the regeneration that occurs with the presence of Collagen and Elastin. Free Acids | Polymers | 1. Always buffered
| 1. Occurs in a chain of molecules – a Polymer – that is similar to the polymer structure of the skin.
| 2. Buffering negates its effectiveness. Buffering is a chemical reaction that turns an acid into a salt. Glycolic Salt does not have the same properties as Glycolic Acid.
| 2. Not buffered | 3. Reduced penetration - These molecules float across the surface layers of the skin and burst on immediate contact with the skin cells. | 3. Better penetration because of its similarity to the structure of the skin | | | |
Glycolic Peels and Products can be used on : - Dry Skins & Dehydrated Skins - Ageing Skins - Pigmented Skins [surface pigmentation] - Oily skins - Acne Skins
All our Glycolic products are non-buffered and are in a polymer form. At Beauty Thru-Nature, we offer Glycolic Treatments to our clients in a range of in-salon Glycolic Acid-Polymer Peels and home-care Glycolic Cremes with different glycolic percentages - 5%, 10%, 20% and 35% - depending on your skin's individual needs. We highly recommend a consultation with one of our experienced therapists prior to any decision in order to choose the right Glycolic percentage and product. Our Glycolic Peel facials begin at $80, call us on (07) 3356 1733 to book an appointment or a consultation with one of our therapists. NOTE : Because Glycolics dissolve the connective links between cells called Desmosomes. It is therefore essential to use and Exfoliant within 24 hours of a Glycolic Peel to prevent the skin cells from falling back into the pores and clogging.
